Find frequently asked questions and answers below.

Microsoft announced that after October 14, 2025, they will no longer provide free security and feature updates, technical assistance, or fixes for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but Microsoft recommends moving to Windows 11.

How can the end of Windows 10 support impact you and your business?

You will not be able to download security updates for your Windows 10 PCs unless you pay for extended support. Microsoft offers one-year Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for $30 per computer for individuals, and for $61 per computer for businesses for the first year. Your computers running Windows 10 will become more and more vulnerable over time. If you process credit card payments, your computer will no longer meet PCI DSS requirements. Newer devices, like scanners, printers, etc., might not have drivers for Windows 10.

Will my Windows 10 PC stop working after October 14, 2025?

Your PC will continue to work, but support for Windows 10 will be discontinued. After October 14, 2025, your Windows 10 PC will no longer receive security updates, and Microsoft will no longer be available to provide Windows 10 technical support.

How do I get Windows 11?

There are two main options - replace your old PC with a new one, or upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11, if your PC meets Windows 11 requirements.

How can I tell if my PC can be upgraded to Windows 11?

You can download and run Microsoft's PC Health Check App on your PC. It will tell you if your PC meets Windows 11 requirements, and if the OS on your PC can be upgraded.

Can I upgrade to Windows 11 for free?

The upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro to the equivalent edition of Windows 11 is free (for example, Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro).

How can I upgrade my PC to Windows 11?

Check to see if this is an option for you by opening Settings > Privacy and Security > Windows Update. If your PC meets the minimum system requirements and is able to upgrade, you should see an option in Windows Update to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. If you do not see "upgrade to Windows 11 option" in Windows Update, but PC Health Check App shows that your PC OS can be upgraded, you can download Windows 11 from Microsoft and install it. Important: Always perform a full backup of your system before a major OS upgrade. This allows you to revert if the upgrade does not go as expected.

Will my printers, scanners, medical equipment and proprietary peripheral devices work with Windows 11?

The best way to tell is to check for Windows 11 drivers on manufacturer's website. Some old printers and scanners can work with Windows 11 using Windows 10 drivers, but their functionality might be limited.

Will my applications work with Windows 11?

Most modern applications should work with Windows 11. If you have legacy or proprietary applications, please check with the vendor. If you want to perform a test upgrade, please reach out to us and our team will convert your PC to a virtual machine, and perform a test upgrade to Windows 11. You can then check if applications remain functional after the upgrade. Your PC will remain intact during that process.
